This week, we finally reach the end of the Skywalker Saga in our appreciative What We Love series by showing some love to The Rise of Skywalker! The last installment of the last trilogy (as of know) can have a lot of people split opinion-wise, but these are just some of the things that I personally really, really love about this movie.
1. C-3PO
I am very adamant that The Rise of Skywalker is C-3PO's best movie. He really shines (both literally and figuratively) in this film, and I love the humor and levity he's able to provide, as well as his character getting to be taken a little more seriously with his noble sacrifice (though R2 thankfully sets things right later). Plus, his little bond with Babu Frik is just the cutest thing ever.
2. Finn and Poe
I said that this dynamic was one of my favorite parts of The Force Awakens, and it continues here too. I love the way that they bounce off of each other, their chemistry creates for a really strong, believable bond. They are just as good at humorous scenes as they are tense scenes, and I really love seeing here how their connection has grown from the beginning,
3. "I'm all the Jedi"
Rey's triumph over Palpatine is just amazing, and among the more powerful parts of the Star Wars saga for me. I love the way that the other Jedi speak to inspire her, and hearing the voices of some of my favorite characters always makes me happy. When I watch it now it reminds me of the potential of the Jedi, the strong, united Order that we see in the High Republic, and it gives hope for the future of the Jedi in the galaxy and their legacy continuing on through our heroine.
4. Happy Reunions
Though it's mostly dialogue-less, I think the happy reunions and celebrations we see of the Resistance always get me so teary. I love seeing characters I love be so happy and celebrating their huge victory. There's just the general happy ambience, as well as cute, hopeful scenes like Chewie getting Han's medal or Jannah connecting with Lando.
5. Rey Skywalker
Finally, and I know this is controversial, but I love the Rey Skywalker ending. I won't explain too much, since I've already written a whole article about it, but it's a part of the story that I love and think is a great moment for her character.
