Happy National Optimist Day! There's no better time than today to appreciate our optimist characters in Star Wars, and why they're so important.

For as much as Star Wars is a story about hope, there are certainly times where things can feel hopeless- when we already know the fate of a character, or planet, or we know about something terrible that will happen in the future. But that doesn't mean you should lose hope- in fact, that's when it's more important than ever. And our optimist characters really embody that.

Optimist characters like Ezra, Omega, Neeku and more remind us how important it is to look on the bright side and find joy and hope when everything feels so joyless or hopeless. Because when things are hard, that's when you need those things to keep going. Trying to push forward every day is only harder when you start to feel like it's all for nothing, or you leave no room in your life for what makes you happy, even if it's small.

That could mean not losing hope that things can and will get better, as Ezra learns to through Rebels- even when it looks like the Empire has an upper hand. That could mean looking for the helpers and making friends like Omega- even when the Bad Batch experiences betrayal and loss. And it could mean always looking for the upside of a bad situation like Neeku- even when things are so different from what he's been used to.
It's not a betrayal of your struggle or the struggle of others to find positivity and be optimistic. It's important to do what's right, to work hard for the right cause and to help other people, but you can't save others if you don't have two feet on the ground. So whether it's a firm belief that things will be okay or finding ways to bring yourself some light in the darkness, we could all find ways to be a little more like our favorite Star Wars optimists.
