Women's History Month is still going strong! We're celebrating here at Star Wars Geek Girl by highlighting some of the important women of Star Wars- whether they're behind the scenes, on the screen, or in today's case- on the page!

While she has yet to make a movie or television appearance, Admiral Rae Sloane has been a key figure since the first canon Star Wars novel, A New Dawn, where she ran into Kanan Jarrus and Hera Syndulla. But that's not where she's most important. In the Aftermath trilogy, Sloane is a key figure behind the remaining Empire- in fact, you could even say she was THE key figure.
Leading the Empire from behind the scenes and handling the various squabbles of other officers, Sloane repeatedly proves herself as the most competent and level-headed of the Imperial warlords. It's a good thing, then, that she was undermined by them, leading to the Empire grouping up for a final confrontation over Jakku- which, of course, they lost.
The man puppeteering the Empire's corpse after Endor was Gallius Rax, and while Sloane worked with him for a time, his failures lead to her splitting from the Empire as she knew it. At the end of the Aftermath trilogy, after the Battle of Jakku, she flees into the Unknown Regions with the Huxes- forming what would later be the First Order.
Sloane is such a key player in the novels when it comes to everything going on immediately post-Return of the Jedi, and with the direction some of the television shows are heading who knows- we could see her on a bigger screen soon! Regardless, Sloane's discipline and strong mind make her both a formidable villain and an untrustworthy ally, and I think she is certainly one of the greats when it comes to having a fascinating character arc in Star Wars.
You can read Rae Sloane in A New Dawn, the Aftermath trilogy, or see her in the video game Star Wars Squadrons!
