Highlighting Women Behind the Galaxy Far, Far Away - Ellen Poon

For Women's History Month, we're highlighting some of the women who work so hard to bring us stories from the galaxy far, far away. Today, we go back to the prequel era of Star Wars to talk about Ellen Poon and her contribution to the galaxy far, far away.

Ellen Poon saw the original Star Wars as a teenager, and was enamored with the fantastical worlds, creatures and costumes. Star Wars, as well as movies like Alien, sparked a love for visual effects and inspired her career. Poon began to work for Industrial Light and Magic, and later production began on The Phantom Menace. She worked hard as part of the team that brought so many of the iconic creatures from the prequel trilogy to life for us, and we certainly owe her our thanks. She also made history as the first woman at the company to be made Visual Effects Supervisor.

Even outside of Star Wars, Ellen Poon's many credits are impressive- like Jurassic Park, Frozen, Zootopia, Moana and many more. We're so fortunate that she has graced us with her skills and knowledge and helped to forge creatures we still look back on (and sometimes still get used) today.
