This February marks 2025's Black History Month! As usual, we like to celebrate here at Star Wars Geek Girl by putting some extra spotlight on Black characters within Star Wars, and the creatives that the galaxy far, far away to life.

We're kicking off this month's crop of articles by appreciating a recent audition to the Star Wars galaxy, and an unsung hero of Skeleton Crew. This week, I want to appreciate Wim's dad, Wendle!

Wendle had a bit of a rough start in the beginning of the show. He's clearly a very busy, and very tired man who we learn has lost his wife. Unfortunately for Wim, this means he doesn't get to spend a lot of time with his son. But when Wim and his friends go missing, Wendle kicks into super dad mode, and it was amazing to watch!

We saw Wendle spring into action and while all of the Skeleton Crew parents were trying to get their kids home, he was one of the most persistent- even when it got him in trouble. And in the final episode, Wendle is the breakout star! He races on bikes with the kids, just as thrilled with the adventure as they are. His job that Wim once thought was so boring is what allows them to know how to get the power back on, and he lands a sick punch on Jod to top it all off!

What I really appreciate about Wendle is how much he is a normal guy trying his best. He's tired, trying to balance work and life, but he clearly has so much love for his son- even if he doesn't always know how to express it in words. And as much as he seemed tight-laced and nerdy in the beginning of the show, we see that when it counts, the rules don't actually matter to him. And that nerdiness is what saves the day in the end! He shares his own secret love for adventure with his son, and I think their relationship is on a great path after the events of the show.

I think Wendle is such a relatable, down-to-earth character that teaches us all that sometimes, its okay to cut loose a little bit and break the rules, despite what you've been taught. He's a worthy addition to the Star Wars dads collective, and I hope to see him more appreciated in the future!
