Female Pilots in Star Wars and Real Life Heroes Like Them - Part III

Writer: Zoe HintonZoe Hinton

National Women in Aviation Week is ending, so we're finishing things off by celebrating two more pilots- one in Star Wars, and one on Earth. Today we have two of the youngest ladies that you'll find in the cockpit!

Nash Durango is everyone's favorite young, bright-eyed pilot in Young Jedi Adventures. She's empathetic yet also headstrong, and can outfly people more than twice her age, especially with her trusty droid RJ-83 at her side. She's protective of her friends, and also of her ship, the Firehawk. Family is important to her, and she's always doing her best to make her moms proud.

That brings us to our real life pilot of today, Katrina Mumaw. Katrina's love for flying was first sparked when she was just three years old after witnessing a test flight. At just eight years old she was already flying, and has 143 victories in flying contests in a variety of different aircrafts, beating out adult pilots. In 1994, at just eleven years old, Katrina became the youngest person to ever break the sound barrier!

Katrina's early accomplishments are an inspiration to everybody of all ages. She says, "if I could break the sound barrier when I was eleven, each and every one of you can break your own barriers!"
