Black Female Artists of Star Wars: Victoria Mahoney

Writer's picture: Zoe HintonZoe Hinton

To finish off National Black Women in the Arts Week, we have Victoria Mahoney, a film and TV director.

Victoria has worked as a director on a lot of TV shows you may be familiar with. She's directed episodes of Grey's Anatomy, The Morning Show, You and upcoming episodes of Suits LA. She is also the director of the upcoming sequel to The Old Guard. Her talents don't stop at directing though- she's also written and produced films and television, and even appeared in movies before like Legally Blonde.

Her Star Wars claim to fame, though, is that she was Second Unit Director on The Rise of Skywalker. In Variety's interview with her, Victoria reveals that she has always been a lifelong Star Wars fan. Victoria was personally recommended to J.J. Abrams by Ava DuVernay, and had the vision and work ethic to back it all up.

I certainly hope to see Victoria return to Star Wars, perhaps directing an episode of Star Wars TV herself!
